JON S. SANDS
Graduate of Oakton Community College, 1983, AA degree;
University of Northern Colorado, 1986, BS Business Finance.
Joined Sands & Associates in 1991 as Administrative Assistant.
Now Office Manager, Jon is closely involved in financial matters,
calculating damages and lost earnings, working with clients and
economists, in addition to union matters and investigating cases.
After graduating from high school in 1966, enlisted in the United
States Marine Corps,1966-1970. Served in Vietnam Conflict
1969-1970. Hired on the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway in 1971 as a
fireman and promoted to locomotive engineer in 1974. Vice-Local
Chairman United Transportation Union (UTU) 1974-1978. Graduated
Indiana University Northwest, 1978, BA Sociology. Local Chairman
UTU 1978-1988. General Chairman UTU 1988-1992. General
Chairman Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen
Represented union employees in over 2,000 railroad hearings.
Reached wage and work rules agreement through National
Mediation Board (NMB) procedure. This experience of working as
a locomotive engineer, coupled with a "hands-on" approach to
union matters, provide an in-depth knowledge of work rules,
agreements, investigatory procedures and rights protected under
the FELA. Joined Sands & Associates in 2007.
